THE PAGE TURNER

March 14th, 2007 by ALT+165

(La Tourneuse De Page)
A Film by Denis Dercourt

Tartan Films USA will theatrically release THE PAGE TURNER (La Tourneuse De Page) on March 23 in New York City and on March 30 in Los Angeles and Orange County as well as other cities nationwide. THE PAGE TURNER is a story of revenge, but behind it is a growing element of something more ambiguous, where fascination and attraction merge into manipulation. The film is about class revenge and its psychological translation. Mèlanie (Déborah François, L’ENFANT) is a young woman whose ambitions as a concert pianist were dashed as a child, by the thoughtless behavior of the jury chairwoman (a famous pianist) during her exam. Years later she has the opportunity to meet Madame Fouchècourt (Catherine Frot, THE DINNER GAME) on new terms and to become her trusted “page turner.” As they develop an intuitive professional relationship, sexual feelings soon stir between the two women.

THE PAGE TURNER received three French César Award nominations: Best Actress, Catherine Frot; Best Music Written for a Film Jérôme Lemonnier; and Most Promising Actress, Déborah François

Critics Quotes

“…chilly psychological thriller…”
– Stephen Holden, NY YORK TIMES

“There’s a touch of Claude Chabrol in this creepy drama…”
– Kyle Smith, NEW YORK POST

“Fans of Notes on a Scandal, rejoice.”
– Ed Gozalez, The Village Voice

“…the storytelling in The Page Turner is so tightly controlled that the delicate pianist (Frot) never comprehends that the charming young woman at her side is out to get her. Only the audience is in the know — which makes for a thrilling and disturbing sense of participation.”
