LA CANCIÓN “FOGATA” DE MEZKLAH APARECE EN EL DRAMA CRIMINAL “PRIDE AND GLORY”, A ESTRENARSE EN SALAS DE CINE EL 24 DE OCTUBRE

El estreno de la película coincide con el lanzamiento del nuevo EP “Bestia Sonika” de la banda
El destellante corte “Fogata” de la banda Alternativa-Latina Mezklah será destacado en la película Pride and Glory, protagonizada por Edward Norton, Colin Farrell y Jon Voight, a ser estrenada en cines el 24 de Octubre. La canción, que tiene una bailable infusión de cumbia, también puede ser escuchada en el próximo EP de la banda, Bestia Sonika, el cual también será lanzado el próximo mes, con una fecha oficial de promoción del 7 de noviembre en Tangiers en Los Angeles.
Pride and Glory es una película de drama y crimen que se centra alrededor del personaje Ray Tierney, protagonizado por Norton, que es miembro de una familia multi-generacional de policías Irlandeses-Americanos en la ciudad de Nueva York. Al investigar un crimen en el cual se encuentra involucrado su cuñado Jimmy Egan (Farrell), Tierney debe escoger entre la lealtad a su familia o su lealtad al Departamento de Policia de Nueva York (NYPD). La película fue co-escrita y dirigida por Gavin O’Connor (Miracle).
El nuevo EP de Mezklah, Bestia Sonika, que cuenta con cuatro rolas, también será lanzado en Octubre. El EP destaca un sonido ampliado con un gusto de producción al estilo dub reggae y una estimulante combinación de géneros, incluyendo variaciones de cumbia, reggae, hip-hop y rock. Greg Hernandez, guitarrista, afirma que “Siempre hemos mezclado el lado orgánico con el lado electrónico de nuestra música pero ahora, con los integrantes nuevos, podemos tomar una dirección completamente orgánica si asi lo deseamos.” La placa fue producida por Cesar Mejía (Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock) en Shelter Staff Studios de Los Angeles.
Mezklah, que tiene una reputación internacional de ser unas de las pocas agrupaciones que demuestran que “hay más en la música latina que esos interminables mariachis en esos sombreros cursis que infestan Sábado Gigante.” (Ink 19 Magazine), ha recibido notable aclamación de los medios por su disco debut Spider Monkey. Recién regresan de otro periplo mundial, trás pasar por Oaxaca, Mexico y el Tokyo Music Festival en el camino. Durante sus viajes, la banda ha tocado para multitudes de más de 20,000 personas en el festival de la Feria del Libro en México, participó en el primer concierto de rock en español de Memphis, Tennessee, y ha teloneado a grupos como Ozomatli, Kinky, Maldita Vecindad y Antibalas.

MEZKLAH’S SONG “FOGATA” TO APPEAR IN FORTHCOMING CRIME DRAMA “PRIDE AND GLORY” IN THEATERS OCTOBER 24
Movie premiere to coincide with release of band’s new EP
“Bestia Sonika”
Alternative-Latino band MEZKLAH’s scintillating track “Fogata” will be featured in new film Pride and Glory, starring Edward Norton, Colin Farrell and Jon Voight, in theaters October 24. The cumbia-infused dance track will also appear in a 2008 update on Mezklah’s upcoming genre-blending EP Bestia Sonika, also due next month, with a promo date on November 7 at Tangier in Los Angeles.
Pride and Glory is a crime drama centered around character Ray Tierney, played by Norton, a member of a multi-generational Irish-American police family in New York City. When he investigates a case that involves his brother-in-law Jimmy Egan (Farrell), Tierney has to choose between his loyalty to his family and his loyalty to the NYPD. The film is cowritten and directed by Gavin O’Connor (Miracle).
“Chango Araña” appears on Mezklah’s Bestia Sonika, also slated for an October release. This four-track EP showcases the band’s enhanced sound with tinges of dub-reggae style production and exhilarating genre-blending, with strains of cumbia, reggae, hip-hop and rock. Guitarist Greg Hernandez says, “We’ve always blended the organic side and the electronic side in our music, but now, with the new members, we feel free to go in a completely organic direction if we want to.” The disc was produced by Cesar Mejia (Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock) at Shelter Staff Studios in Los Angeles.
Mezklah has an international reputation as one of the few groups making a case that “there’s more to Latin music than those endless mariachis in cheesy sombreros that infest Sabado Gigante,” (Ink 19 Magazine) with notable critical acclaim for their debut album SpiderMonkey. They recently completed yet another round of globe-trotting, playing gigs in Oaxaca, Mexico and the Tokyo Music Festival along the way. During their travels, the band has played to a crowd of 20,000 at Mexico City’s La Feria del Libro festival, played the first ever rock en español concert in Memphis, Tennessee and opened for such acts as Ozomatli, Kinky, Maldita Vencidad and Antibalas.
