LAMC’s (Latin Alternative Music Conference) annual concert at Celebrate Brooklyn will take place the evening of Friday, July 13th in Prospect Park, and this year’s lineup will feature Zoe, Chetes and The Pinker Tones. Mexico City’s Zoe has been one of the hottest rock bands to come out of the growing Mexico rock scene in the past few years. They recently played at the Vive Latino festival, Mexico City’s answer to Coachella, for the second year in a row and have garnered a growing following in the U.S. Chetes, former frontman of Mexican rock bands Zurdok and Vaquero, hails from Monterrey and has been all over the Mexican charts with the song “Completamente” from his debut solo album “Blanco Facil”. He is back at the LAMC for the second year in a row having played at the Bowery Ballroom showcase last year, and is ready to win over the Celebrate Brooklyn audience will his melodic pop/rock a-la Brian Wilson sound. Barcelona’s The Pinker Tones continue their non-stop globetrotting to hop across the pond and get the crowd jumping with their energetic electronica set. They were a big hit at SXSW and recently played at KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic Evening in Los Angeles and also made an appearance in the KCRW studio for Nic Harcourt’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic”.
LAMC has also announced its panel topics and themes for 2007. Among the panels, which feature many industry heavy hitters, are:
-”DIGI-LANDIA”: The Growth & Landscape of Latin Music Digital Sales
-Selecting the Music: How Programmers, Marketers and Music Supervisors Make Their Decisions
-Changing of the Guard: Latin Alternative’s New Media Supporters
-Class of ’97 Reunion: A Look Back at the Last Ten Years in Latin Alternative Music
-This Is Radio Clash: Are Satellite, Online, Public, Bilingual & Podcast Radio Formats the Future of Latin Alternative Broadcasting?
With a warm welcome from the Big Apple, the biggest event in the world for cutting edge Latin music will return to New York July 10th – 14th. Discounted early bird registration for LAMC, presented by MTV Tr3s, is available for only $249 at www.LatinAlternative.com (rate expires on June 1st). Featuring leading artists as well as many of the music industry’s most prominent decision-makers, the eighth annual LAMC is a “must play” event for developing and established acts alike. Of the six artists recently spotlighted in Time Magazine’s recent “6 Sizzling CD’s from South of the Border” Latin Grammy feature, five of the acts had played LAMC before they went on to achieve wider commercial success.
“It is my pleasure to welcome the Latin Alternative Music Conference back to New York City,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “Events like the LAMC are a boon to our economy, bringing visitors to the City and generating jobs, and I would like to thank the Latin Media & Entertainment Commission for attracting the conference back to the Big Apple. With our diverse and vibrant Latino population, there is no better place to hold Latin events than in Nueva York. As they say in Spanish, que empiece la fiesta.”
Among the events planned for LAMC 2007 are free concerts at Central Park Summerstage (including a special Film & Music night on July 10th), Celebrate Brooklyn Festival at the Prospect Park Bandshell, concert at Museo del Barrio, Closing Night Party at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, as well as numerous showcases (Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, and SOB’s) and industry panels (held at the Roosevelt Hotel) for LAMC registrants. With past conferences averaging more than 1250 music industry attendees and 25,000 concert fans each year, LAMC 2007 promises to be an exciting year. This four-day conference providing networking opportunities with the genre’s leading artists, label executives, journalists, marketers, managers, retailers and programmers, is the most extensive to be offered by a Latin music conference to date.
