corrosion: a decay + decomposition exhibit

May 31st, 2006 by ALT+165

After the acclaimed inksurgent v.2 “Beautifully Rebellious” performance & art exhibit in 2004, the infamous mixed media artist XOSU3 strikes back with a new decay and decomposition series, titled corrosion. Teaming up again with his partner in crime, spouse and companion Claudia de la Cruz, an extraordinary and passionate flamenco dancer, XOSU3 is about to present his latest recycled work along with an experimental flamenco act, saturday august 5th, 2006 at 7pm.

“Corrosion is everywhere. We’re living in a constant and permanent decaying nature. Everything has a tendency to decompose. Our contaminated environment, the fragile organic elements, all rusted inanimate materials, also our so called values, morals, ethics, spirit, intellect, mind and body are equally subject to an imminent deterioration” Explains the artist at the time he is looking at the heavily rusted iron plate hanging from the wall, presenting a big old hammer, as satirical protagonist of an always growing mankind surrounded by pollution. ?Power is also subject to corrosion and the whole thing you see here is a humble way to display our tyranny towards earth. We are the living rust over the face of the planet. As we plague continues to grow, we?re doomed and leading an inevitable catastrophe as we?re devastating our world.? Think of some desperate words of a traumatized environmentalist perhaps. ?Too much for you? Yes I know that?s why my immediate technique to protest and express my thoughts is with pieces of evidence that some people call art. Isn?t that ironic?? Concludes XOSU3 with a cynical expression.

XOSU3 was born somewhere between the revolutionary 2Oth Century and the sinister romanticism of the dark ages. He Graduated as Professional Graphic Designer in 1995 from one of the most recognized graphic designer universities in Mexico City, Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana; Campus Xochimilco and then he obtained his Visual Arts Master Degree in 2000 from Coastline Community College in Garden Grove, California.

He is also Editor of Espacioalternativo.com an underground bilingual on-line magazine established since 1997 and co-founder of APARATVS | web medics + graphic surgeons, a graphic design and web development firm that first launched their digital surgery lab in 2000. XOSU3 easily goes from Digital Technology to Mixed Media Objects and Installations not just to display his (most of the time disturbing) artifacts but also for people to interact with them.

[ corrosion ] is XOSU3’s most recent work (more corrosion series in progress) that includes waste, found objects and installations reflecting universal elements that affect equally to our inner self, the environment and to all living organisms like rot, decay, corrosion and deterioration. Simultaneously he is working along with his wife Claudia de la Cruz, a well-known Flamenco Dancer and choreographer on their third annual edition of Inksurgent, a multi-faceted show that includes live music, flamenco performance and installations this year titled Circusmtance: Exercising the muscles of imagination to premier Fall 2006.

XOSU3 Currently lives and works in Santa Ana, California. He has a long-term interest in working with junk to create sculptural and three-dimensional work. He has recently exhibited in several shows like The Sound Walk (Long Beach, 2004), including The First Annual L.A. Arts Fest (Los Angeles, 2005) and Reel Rasquache Festival of the US Latino Experience in Film & Art (Luckman Theater, Los Angeles 2005), among others exhibits.

XOSU3 (pronounced ho-su?) works with recycled materials, garbage, unwanted items and furniture to create unique artifacts that can be used in daily life. To learn more of his work and future projects, log onto:
