Christian Death is a common name in the underground scene. A deathrock/punk rock band formed in 1979 by Rozz Williams is now Valor’s and Maitri personal journey and music project. Christian Death is known for being one of the pioneers of the ‘deathrock’ genre, which is punk rock with horror elements among other visual delights. Chistian Death had seen several line ups and changes over the years and despite the dispute over the name, Gitane Demon was among the members that shared the stage with this creative artists where both Wlliams and Valor developed at some point.

It’s great news to hear about this Necro Sexual Tour after such a long period of silence from Valor and company. Secondly, after hearing the samples of The American Inquisition I had the feeling that this was going to be a really great album, and a return for the band. The album’s concept is focused on the illness of society: drugs, former US President Bush, evangelical religion and how self centered society is. It is more deathrock than anything they have done in a very, very, long time and it seems like they have moved away from metal a bit, which is a good thing! Metal fans who like their last few albums might be dissappointed because it sounds like their old school deathrock material. Still they might play their Christian Death classics for the hardcore fans pleasure!

45 Grave, (also known as .45 Grave) formed in 1979, is an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, CA, noted for their influential roles in the Horror Rock, horror punk and deathrock genres. The original group broke up in 1985 but vocalist Dinah Cancer has revived the band in recent times.

The band was formed in Los Angeles, California during the punk rock movement. The original lineup consisted of Dinah Cancer on vocals, Paul Cutler on guitar, Rob Ritter (also known as Rob Graves of The Bags) on bass, and Don Bolles (of The Germs) on drums. The band evolved out of an industrial music band called Vox Pop, who recorded two singles and played around the Los Angeles area, specifically in the punk institution the Masque. Vox Pop contained all of the members of 45 Grave as well as others, such as Jeff Dahl. Vox Pop continued to coexist with 45 Grave until early 1981. The band’s name, despite rumors to the contrary, was lifted from a button.

In 1980, 45 Grave recorded their first song, “Riboflavin Flavored, Non-Carbonated, Poly-Unsaturated Blood”, included on the LAFMS (Los Angeles Free Music Society) art rock compilation album, “Darker Skratcher”. The song is a cover version of the cult favorite originally done by “Don Hinson And The Rigamorticians” on their 1964 album release “Monster Dance Party”. Don Hinson at the time was a popular radio personality in Las Vegas, Nevada (and later for 20 years in Los Angeles, California). Mr. Hinson recorded the song in the wake of Bobby “Boris” Pickett’s 1962 novelty song hit “Monster Mash” hoping to emulate the latter song’s success and have an international hit record. Both “Monster Mash” and the Don Hinson original recording of “Riboflavin Flavored, Non-Carbonated, Poly-Unsaturated Blood” were produced by noted novelty song record producer Gary S. Paxton of Skip & Flip. The 45 Grave recording went on to achieve cult status and is a signature song during the bands live shows. 45 Grave members appeared as extras in Blade Runner directed by Ridley Scott.

Early on, the band were playing The Consumers songs that Cutler had written, with lyrics changed to fit Cancer’s singing style. They then wrote the songs that would be released on their first 7″, “Black Cross”, and a fast paced punk song called “Party Time”.

Despite never achieving major success, 45 Grave are recognised as being one of the first Amercian Gothic bands, pre-dating the formation of Christian Death. Allmusic guide cites them as a top artist in the Goth rock genre.

Influences Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Red Flag, Camouflage, Nitzer Ebb, Covenant, Apoptygma, Melotron, S.P.O.K., Underworld and many other fantastic Synth-pop and Techno acts that have made our brain soak in elctronic frequencies since 1985. Sounds Like Future-pop electronica with a hint of EBM basslines and sequences, melodic vocals and techno beats. In other words, ELECTROVÖT!!!

A final celebration of Megaptera’s 15 year anniversary, Malignant presents the definitive last statement from this prominent and highly influential death industrial project. Staring Back At You concentrates on demo versions, outtakes, and rare songs from various arenas, including the compilations Zyklon B, Beating the Meat, Slaughter Age ’95, The Book ov Shadowz, Death OdorsII, as well as material from the Deep Inside LP, and more.

These tracks capture Megaptera at their grittiest, creepiest, and most horrifying…a grinding, lurching monstrosity fueled by the madness, violence, lies, wars, and disease that plague the world. Limited to 800 copies, and coming in a 6 panel digipak designed by Mårten Kellerman, this has been re-mastered by Magnus Sundstrom,with additional boosting courtesy of Thomas Garrison. Staring Back At You is the final nail in the coffin for Megaptera, and may they rest in peace, but continue to deliver nightmares, maddening thoughts, and the darkest of obsessions.

Megaptera are probably the one band that the “Death Industrial” tag fits best. Heavier than Brighter Death Now, Atrax Morgue or any of the other bands that fell under the banner of Death Industrial, this seminal Swedish project created some of the most crushing electronic music ever during it’s heyday, and this 2007 collection released by the excellent Baltimore-based label and distributor Malignant showcases some of the most flattening tracks that Megaptera ever recorded.

This disc is the last official release from the band since it decided to cease operations in 2006, and it’s a collection of rare material culled from demo versions, studio outtakes, and tracks from the Zyklon B, Beating the Meat, Slaughter Age ‘95, The Book ov Shadowz, and Death Odors II compilations. The music represented here is unifyingly nightmarish and creepy, ranging from menacing dronescapes to pulverizing machine dirges.

The more rhythmic pieces make for some of the heaviest industrial music you’ll ever hear…”Disoriented” rides a monstrous percussive loop over slabs of subterranean black ambience and grim horror synths, and “The Passage” sounds like a a doomdirge version of the Terminator original sound track. The track “Lurking Fear” is the prime skullcrusher on this disc, however; starting out as a series of looped layers of chittering, grating machine noise and pulsating foghorn tones, the piece slowly builds in density as additional machine rhythms and noise loops and bleak drones stack up, until finally a crushing drum machine beat shows up halfway through, massive and martial, a brutal doom march stomping through a nightmare world of living machinery. Imagine Godflesh’s Streetcleaner combined with some noisy, loop-based ambient noise…freaking pulverizing.

This is ultra-dark, nihilistic music, the repetitious sound of late-20th century factory machinery forged into apocalyptic dirge. Staring Back At You is limited to 800 copies and comes in a full-color, six panel digipack, remastered by Magnus Sundstrom and with additional sound “boosting” by Thomas Garrison from the power electronics project Control.

Megaptera were undisputable kings of so-called “death industrial” genre. In 10 years they released a number of albums and contributed many tracks to compilations. So why do they stand out among their contemporaries? It’s because of sense of atmosphere that they were able to create – the one where you could almost feel nasty odor coming out of your speakers. On the downside, their obsession with darkness and death can be overwhelming at times, but I think that those who buy Megaptera records will know what its about. Step inside, if you’re bold enough.

While her new 3rd album, “Hearts For Bullets”, is currently being produced in Canada by Sebastian R. Golgatha – Tales of Transgression & Sacrifice CD

Founded in 2004 by Christoph Donarski and S. Marleni, :Golgatha: began in the dark realms of ambient-drones and continually developed their use of acoustic instruments to create a unique mixture organic and electronic elements. After two acclaimed albums on the subject of heroism, “Tales of Transgression & Sacrifice” marks a certain change of course in the music of :Golgatha: ? in a psychonautic trip from ritual-drumming via multi-textured soundscapes up to catchy folk-songs this album appears even more sensual, erotic and fascinating than before. Due to the very exclusive artwork this CD is a little bit more expensive than our standards.

Dawn & Dusk Entwined – Septentrion CD

Dawn & Dusk Entwined begins the collaboration with CMI with an album which is most appropriate dedicated to the Nordic world, imaginary, beauty, not related to the runic current but to the french litterary notion of “Septentrion”.

Nature as a living entity, apart from any human exploitation, or only seen through the respectful eyes of some simple hosts conscious of their tiny place amidst the timeless natural cycles and power. It’s close to a heathen view of the world and confers to the old European beliefs and conscience. You will hear the reflection of the vastness, mysteries, and timelessness of this universe in a journey through these manifold aspects, and through the power and beauty of the unique mixture of progressive-industrial, martial beats, dark ambient, and neo-folk as calls, avoiding usual cliches. Returning with a singularly cold, desolate and lonely release, IRM continues to fervently espous irreligious, body-obsessed abstractions of the highest order. Departing from the aggressive PE outbursts of the past, the duo of Erik Jarl and Martin Bladh sculpt pulsating drones and powerfully dark sounds, as the bleeding wound of IRM continues to flower.
