The Motels are one the most influential and seminal New Wave music bands from Berkeley California best known for “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer”, each of which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 and 1983, respectively. Their song “Total Control” reached No. 4 on the Australian charts in 1980. Martha Davis (born January 19, 1951), the lead singer, reformed a version of the band called “The Motels featuring Martha Davis” in 1998; as of 2010 she continues to appear under that name with various line-ups of musicians.

Saturday April 6TH, 2013 you could witness one of the few concerts during their 2013 Tour a show not to be missed!

THE MOTELS

Los Angeles Times’ Robert Hilburn called her “arguably the most charismatic female performer in rock”…. For Martha Davis, the most important thing has always been the songs she writes. Martha began writing songs at the age of 15. Born and raised in Berkeley, CA, she moved to Los Angeles in the early ‘70s, along with the first incarnation of The Motels. The band reformed in 1978 and was immediately signed to Capitol in 1979.

The Motels recorded six records for Capitol. Their self titled debut was greeted with positive critical reviews in 1979, and exploded in Australia on the strength of the #2 Pop single, ‘Total Control’ (which was later covered by Tina Turner for the We Are The World album). In 1981 their sophomore effort, Careful, went Top 50. Then, in 1982, the Motels released All Four One…the smash single ‘Only The Lonely’ rocketed into the Top 10, immediately propelled the album to gold status and truly broke The Motels in the United States. The group dominated the music scene and was voted Best Performance for ‘Only The Lonely’ at the 1982 American Music Awards.

1983’s Little Robbers album went gold on the Top 10 single ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ and the second Top 40 hit ‘Remember The Nights’. In 1985 the Shock album yielded the Top 20 hit, ‘Shame’, and 1987 saw the release of Martha’s first solo effort, Policy.

In 1988, Martha took a sabbatical from the music scene….prompting the question “Where have you been?” “Looking for my sense of humor” she says “I seemed to have lost it somewhere around 1984. It’s not a business that one should be in without a sense of humor”. Though constantly writing, Martha left center stage to work on various collaborations with artists including Ivan Neville, Arthur Barrow (Frank Zappa), Jeff Daniel, Kiki Dee, Richard Feldman, written songs for a new musical for the Civic Light Opera, and a new musical of her own entitled Rebecca, and is now involved in producing a children’s music project. Additionally, Martha is back on the scene with her newly formed band and plays regularly to packed houses.

The Greenhorns is a documentary film that explores the lives of America’s young farming community—its spirit, practices, and needs. As the nation experiences a groundswell of interest in sustainable lifestyles, we see the promising beginnings of an agricultural revival. Young farmers’ efforts feed us safe food, conserve valuable land, and reconstitute communities split apart by strip malls. It is the filmmakers’s hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can inspire another generation of optimistic agrarians.

One of the most popular Spanish language rock bands to ever emerge on the world stage, Caifanes, will hit the stage at Honda Center on June 2.

Between forming in 1987 and their separation in 1995, Caifanes produced four albums that changed the course of Mexican rock history. “El Negro” (‘89), “El Diablito”(‘90), “El Silencio”(‘92) and “El Nervio del Volcan” (‘94), Caifanes helped to musically liberate a new generation.

In April of 2011, the unimaginable dream became reality for fans of the New Wave of Mexican rock of the ‘90s. After almost 16 years of separation, the legendary band Caifanes reunited and played emotion-filled concerts for tens of thousands of delirious devotees at the massive Vive Latino and Coachella festivals in Mexico City and Los Angeles.

The concerts at Vive Latino and Coachella were clear evidence of a renewed determination of these extremely gifted innovators of Mexico’s golden age of rock, from the first chords of “Será Por Eso,” when more than 70,000 people passionately joined Caifanes once more. Caifanes had shown, once again that in Mexico, rockers are modern-day demi-gods, and their shows are a 21st century version of a mysterious, ecstatic ritual. The magic of Caifanes is back.

++++

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 4th annual Hola Mexico Film Festival. HMFF will be held May 20th to May 30th at the famed Ricardo Montalban Theater in Hollywood, California where we will be screening more than 20 select films.

This year we bring you seven days of the best films that have emerged from the halls of Mexico. Action films, dramas, comedies and real stories that have changed our society. In 2011, Hola Mexico Film Festival welcomed more than 11,000 attendees. This year we anticipate over 15,000 guests and film aficionados.

We are proud to say ADIOS CLICHES and HOLA MEXICO. Our goal is to showcase the real Mexico and transmit our vision of what life in Mexico is on a day-to-day basis. Mexico is not what is seen on current television networks or select news reports. We invite you to say goodbye to all the clichés that surround us every day and say HOLA to Mexico through the eyes of our Film Festival.

This year we are excited to announce that we will be expanding our overall program. Our feature film presentation for 2012 is a reflection of today’s cinema in Mexico. DIAS DE GRACIA, our inaugural film, has been praised among film critics around the world due to its extraordinaire photography, superb acting, and outstanding direction. Other films that will be presented at our Festival are Mexico’s great box office success AQUI ENTRE NOS and the long awaited CRISTIADA; FOR GREATER GLORY with Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria.

For the first time we will showcase a Short Film Program and a children’s matinee program, HOLA NIÑOS for families and children of all ages to enjoy. We will also screen two sixty-minute feature films that will play back to back.

Mexican documentaries have created social conscience awareness. In 2011, we saw the reality of Mexico’s criminal justice system in PRESUNTO CULPABLE. This year, we invite you to experience a Mexican classroom, and beyond with the movie DE PANZAZO! directed by maestro Juan Carlos Rulfo. We invite you to gain insight and an in depth perspective of the world of smugglers with the film, FELIX: AUTOFICCIONES DE UN TRAFICANTE.

We expect more than fifteen hundred LAUSD students during the Festival week who will join us at no cost to them. In effort to promote community awareness and film education HOLA Mexico Film Festival will donate film screening tickets to over ten non-profit organizations to generate funds and promote their causes.

We are grateful to our sponsors who make 2012 Hola Mexico Film Festival possible.

See you at the movies!

Rock ‘n Roll doesn’t get any bigger than this! KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE…On the same stage…On the same night. This spectacle of spectacles announced on Tuesday, KISS and MÖTLEY CRÜE are uniting to launch THE TOUR of 2012. The summer’s biggest, baddest rock tour will level 40+ cities nationwide starting July 20th. The Live Nation promoted tour will go on public on-sale beginning Friday, March 23rd at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com. Sales for VIP ticket packages, including opportunities to meet the band, begin Thursday, March 22, at 10am local time for each city.

According to Blabbermouth.net, KISS and Mötley Crüe held a press conference on Tuesday, March 20 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California to officially announce details of their co-headlining 2012 North American summer tour, simply dubbed “The Tour”. The trek – which will see KISS closing the show each night – will kick off on July 20 in Bristow, Virginia and will run through September 23 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Live Nation-promoted tour will go on sale beginning Friday, March 23 at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com. The KISS Army fan club pre-sales begin Wednesday, March 21 at 10 a.m.

Said Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx: “Growing up, I had a KISS poster, Aerosmith poster and Sweet on the wall, and for me to go out and do this together, it’s an honor. I know what KISS is about – I’ve been watching them for years – and I think it’s a perfect, perfect match. Maybe a match made in hell, in some places in America they may think, but it’s a perfect match and it’s gonna be all night long – hits, bombs, girls, topless a few. Mötley Crüe and KISS – I can’t wait to experience it myself.”

Added KISS frontman Paul Stanley: “Nikki and I have been in touch with each other and just going, ‘This is awesome.’ This is something we’re all really fired up about. It’s double what either one of us could do, so exponentially it’s that much bigger. Whatever either band is capable of doing, you do it double on one night. It’s out of the park, man. We’re gonna level each city, literally.”

With combined album sales of almost 200 million, KISS and Mötley Crüe are more than just iconic; they remain today as the dominant powerhouses of rock music tallying 30+ chart-topping hits, countless sold out tours and awards and accolades from around the world. Known for their elaborate and spectacular stage shows, each band plans to give fans the ultimate summer concert experience with the most impressive lighting and sound production ever and their signature over-the-top pyrotechnics. This is the first time KISS and Mötley Crüe will share a stage since 1982.
